Abstract

[eng] Recent Trends in the Purchasing Power of Salaries - From April, 1979, to April, 1980, the most recent one-year period for which it is possible to calculate the monthly earnings within the private sector, the purchasing power of salaries, on the average, was maintained. For manual workers, a more recent period can be examined. Thus, from October, 1979, to October ,1 980, the purchasing power of weekly salary rates increased by 1.3 %. Regarding the SMIC (guaranteed minimum wage) and the salaries of civil servants, the normal mechanism of the sliding scale providing regular adjustments to the trends of prices worked as in the past. Nevertheless, beyond these average trends, the year 1980 seems to have been characterized by a dispersion of the rates of increase. Compared with preceding years, the progression of salaries was uneven in different professional categories (executives, technicians, office staff, and manual workers) or within various economic sectors.
