Abstract

[eng] The Holdings of Agriculture - The overall holdings of agriculture can be calculated in several ways. The agricultural branch, which « owns » the entirety of the land and equipment related to agricultural production, constitutes an estate valued at 787 billion francs. Its percentage of the resident wealth is significantly greater than its share in overall production. The wealth of 900,000 farming households, who own only about half of the farm land, but who have other forms of holdings (notably housing) is 685 billion francs. Their average wealth is two and a half times greater than that of the « average household », but it should be kept in mind that two thirds of this wealth consists of equipment goods. The estate of owner-operated farms, which represents approximately half of the farmland, is estimated at 760 billion francs. A closer study of such farms makes it clear that there is a very great dispersion of estates depending on the size of farms and that there is a great diversity depending on the crops grown.
