Abstract

[fre] Cet article fait suite à l'étude précédente de l'assurance sur la vie en Grande-Bretagne. La législation anglaise classe dans les assurances générales : l'assurance maritime et transports ; l'assurance-incendie ; les assurances contre les accidents personnels et la maladie ; les assurances de responsabilité dont les deux maîtresses branches étaient l'assurance automobile et avant 1948 l'assurance accidents du travail, rattachée depuis lors à la sécurité sociale, et enfin les assurances diverses. Cet ordre correspond à peu près à celui de leur apparition historique. Les assurances privées sont pratiquées surtout par les sociétés par actions et par les assureurs affiliés au Lloyd's. Une grande partie des opérations se font à l'étranger. En tant qu'institutions financières, le rôle économique des assurances s'apparente à celui des banques.
