Abstract

[fre] Le commerce extérieur représente pour le Canada une part importante de son revenu national. Positive en 1938, l'ensemble de la balance commerciale du Canada s'est soldée en 1953 par un déficit. Si la composition par catégories de produits des importations et des exportations a à peine varié, les exportations demeurant peu diversifiées, en revanche la répartition géographique du commerce extérieur s'est profondément modifiée. Non seulement l'inconvertibilité de la livre sterling met le Canada dans l'impossibilité d'utiliser, comme en 1938, l'excédent de ses échanges avec le Commonwealth pour régler son déficit avec les États-Unis, mais celui-ci s'est considérablement accru en 1953. La dépendance du Canada vis-à-vis des États- Unis s'accentue.
