Abstract

The establishment of modern Hungarian state law enforcement was the outcome of a long process, the beginning of which can be dated to 1920. The objective of law enforcement is security, and it is motivated by migration. The task and institutions of Hungarian law enforcement adapt to the functions and organization of Hungarian public administration. Its public task is to guarantee public security in Hungary on the level of society. Being in possession of the monopoly on the legitimate use of violence, it accomplishes that mainly but not solely with policing measures and coercive measures.
