Abstract

The economic performance of Eastern EU mem ber states and their success of being involved in the Single European Market are greatly affected by their fiscal and reform policy in the preparation period prior to their accession to the EU and the EMU. This study gives an overview of this process in order to find the reasons for the success and failure of the fiscal policies in the EU8+2 countries between 1999 and 2006.
