Historia social de la infancia callejera limeña

Abstract

El autor emprende un recorrido histórico sobre los niños de la calle limeños. Destaca que la antigua cultura colonial urbana de Lima no permitía que tal fenómeno social se articulara y desarrollara en siglos pasados, como ocurrió en otras ciudades latinoamericanas como Sao Paulo (Brasil) y Bogotá (Colombia). En la capital peruana, los niños de la calle aparecieron en el siglo XX como consecuencia de los procesos de urbanización y modernización. El autor describe detalladamente la historia reciente de la infancia callejera limeña, incluyendo aspectos de la asistencia a la misma. Finalmente, presenta la realidad de los niños de la calle del centro histórico de Lima al final de los años ochenta, producto de una investigación de campo realizada con métodos sociológicos modernos.
