Cambios capitalistas en las haciendas cajamarquinas

Abstract

En la última década han aparecido numerosos estudios sobre el centro y el sur del Perú; en cambio, Cajamarca -- y en general la sierra norte - han quedado relegados como objeto de investigación. La escasez de trabajos previos permite que algunas 'concepciones generalizadas', ni comprobadas ni refutadas por investigaciones concretas, mantengan fuerte influencia entre las capas intelectuales de la región. Así, por ejemplo, es muy común la idea de que entre 1850 y 1935 Cajamarca vivía una situación de 'economía natural', con muy escasa movilidad del campesinado entre haciendas o entre las áreas de minifundio y las haciendas del departamento. Característicos se consideran también el alto grado de dependencia personal y la servidumbre en las relaciones terrateniente-campesino, al tiempo que se refuta como casi inexistente el pago de mano de obra con dinero (Eslava, 1973: 43--55).
