Implications of industrial relationships for universities: a case study of the UK Teaching Company Scheme

Abstract

Recent rapid growth in university—industry links has led to debate on the consequences for the universities. This paper, based on a study of the effects of the UK's Teaching Company Scheme (TCS) on academic participants, indicates few overall effects, with change occurring mainly at the margins. The results of the study are presented after discussing the current debate and its historical antecedents, and various explanations for the rise in linkage. Copyright , Beech Tree Publishing.
