Managing Logistics Investments By Using Experience From It

Informatics and logistics have much in common in regard to other business processes in an organization, especially since they are mostly infrastructural processes. Informatics here takes the lead with its many developed approaches, frameworks, standards and other guidelines with its theoretical bases adapted to IT. Years ago, the Val IT framework was developed by the international non-profit organization ISACA for managing investments, and it complements the well-known and widespread COBIT framework. In logistics there also exists an international non-profit organization, SCC, which developed the SCOR framework. It is a collection of best practices and recommendations for supply chain management, much like COBIT is for the field of IT. However, no framework is currently present on the field of logistics that would equal Val IT. We believe that Val IT can be adapted in a manner where its structure is kept intact, but is adequately changed in appropriate parts that are specific for IT, so that it is adapted to the field of logistics. We believe that this will provide an appropriate framework for managing investments in logistics. Whether our proposition is valid or not will have to be confirmed or denied based on the use of this framework in practice. In this paper we will present a general overview of the framework for managing investments in logistics based in best practices and recommendations of Val IT.
