Abstract

At the Seminar for Cooperative Studies of the University of Cologne, the author of this paper has been working with Ingrid Schmale closely and constructively for the past 26 years, making this paper a ‘work in progress’. It is part of a number of joint publications over an extended period of time which address the conception of a practice-oriented approach to cooperative research. The purpose is to recap the progress made in this matter up to this point and to document the current state of affairs regarding the topic. Drawing on the example of developing cooperative patrons’ balances (that go beyond financial statements), this article shall convey an impression of the relevance of action-research for a successful cooperation between cooperative studies and cooperative practice
