Quelle trajectoire environnementale pour la viticulture ?

Abstract

Starting from the way evolutionism apprehends environmental innovations, the present paper tries to characterize their environmental trajectory by focusing on the innovative behavior of Bordeaux area vine growers. On the basis of the results of a questionnaire interviewing these actors, the paper shows that their main environmental question relates to the uses of pesticides, vine growing being in the same time strongly dependent on these products and fully integrated into the pesticides paradigm. The environmental trajectory of vine growers is incremental. As this trajectory is hampered by cognitive and economic obstacles, it is suggested that public policy-makers would do well to encourage collective action rather than attempting to enforce the current regulations.
