Imaging the Indian subcontinent beneath the Himalaya

Abstract

Top down New seismic images reveal the geometry of the Indian plate as it passes beneath the Himalayan plateau. Several important subsurface features of vanished India are revealed, including a shear zone above the base of the Indian crust beneath the Himalaya, and conversion of the deep Indian crust into denser rock.
