Abstract

This study presents the results of nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis of GFRP-confined rectangular reinforced concrete (RC) columns under eccentric Loads. The test variables are the number of GFRP layers and intensity of load eccentricity. It was found that the general trends of the FE analysis results agreed favorably with the results of the experimental studies reported in the literature. The FE analysis results showed that GFRP wrapping of RC columns has significantly increased their load carrying capacity and ductility. The results also indicate that the presence of eccentricity of loading reduces the load carrying capacity and performance of the strengthened RC columns.
