Abstract

This paper, divided into six paragraphs, starts from the consideration of the new and dramatic scenario that emerged in early 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic. The whole world and Basilicata in its territorial dimension shall have to face the setback of the entire economic system and the tourist market through the identification of a new Plan of Action. Tourism economy and all the sectors associated with it run a strong risk: Basilicata will have to overcome a double challenge: infrastructure backwardness and socio-economic revitalization. The tourism sector in Basilicata, in accordance with the latest rules of caution, will be able to respond, bringing out an unexpressed territorial potential with modernization strategies. The modernization of the Lucan tourism sector could benefit from the introduction of 5G in Matera, a sample town for testing the latestgeneration of connection. The help of an effective Coordination Plan, which SVIMEZ is working on, isfunctional to the achievement of such result. It will support the Administrations in the task of stabilization of the results achieved with the appointment of «Matera as the Capital of European Culture» involving unexplored tourist areas of this territory but no less evocative than those known.
