Abstract

During the last decades Economic analysis of Law has acquired enormous attention from both economists and lawyers on both sides of the Atlantic. This essay briefly recalls the origins of EAL, in Chicago and at Yale. The main difference between them is the role played by the concept of economic efficiency, which is a very important one. In the essay I wonder if that difference makes it hard or incorrect to consider EAL as a homogeneous field.
