Abstract

Industrial districts can be conceived as complex systems characterised by a network of interactions amongst heterogeneous, localised, functionally integrated and complementary firms. The paper introduces an industrial district computational prototype that allows to simulate fundamental industrial districts' mechanisms. The paper aims at showing firstly that economic performance of industrial districts proceeds to the behavior of firms and the form through which they interact and co-ordinate each others. Secondly, the role of institutional supporting scaffolds able to improve technological adaptation paths of firms is investigated, too.
