Abstract

This paper investigates the inter-sectoral linkages that occur within several Emilia-Romagna clusters through the adoption of a network analysis (na) approach. This methodology allows us to focus on the industrial structure of the region in order to highlight the industries that are most likely to generate disruptive effects at local level. The main findings reveal a crucial role for the economic growth of the Emilia-Romagna region in relation to the mechanical and electronic industries, sectors which, in the light of the peculiar characteristics of Industry 4.0, if correctly supported through a new industrial policy, could increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the whole production system.
