AMVONUL. THE FIRST PRINTED JOURNAL IN BIHOR COUNTY (English version)

Abstract

In the XIX th century in Western Europe the press undergoes a extensive process of development, its social and political role amplifies. In this period the pubications reached an unprecedented boom in forms ever varied and distinctive frameworks. Due to the repressive legislation in the Austro-Hungarian monarchy, this phenomenon happens hardly at the end of the XIXth century. In Bihor the first paper was releasd in 1862. Between the years 1862 – 1918, come into existence in Bihor, 5 Romanian periodicals and approximately 65 Hungarian periodicals. The first decade of this period is connected to the name of Hűgel Ottó,who founding successively, in less than ten years three Hungarian newspapers Bihar (1862), Nagyváradi Lapok (1868) and Nagyvárad (1870) and prints at his own printing house, the first Romanian periodical in Oradea, Amvonul (1868).
