Abstract

The purpose of the present study was to determine the willingness to pay for the conservation of the natural resources of the National Park Molino de Flores Netzahualcoyotl (PNMFN), in the municipality of Texcoco, Mexico. For this, 152 surveys were applied to families of visitors and addressed to heads of families. Based on the contingent valuation method, it was possible to estimate a potential payment for the park entrance of $ 21 pesos (US $ 1.18). Extrapolating conservatively to the annual values of the park could capture just over four million pesos annually (US $ 230,000). It is concluded that it is a viable funding source to promote the conservation and management of natural resources urgently required, and thus requested by the interviewees as a conditioning factor. Merchants inside the park and visitors must be incorporated into any action plan that is intended to carry out by the administration. Finally, the interviewees demonstrate the need to implement integral conservation and restoration strategies that allows the improvement of the park ́s current status and the social potential benefit that such progresses would represent.
