Abstract

This paper characterizes academic doctoral thesis in administration and compares them with the thesis of degrees or masters, also makes explicit typical features regarding the thesis in other fields of the economic phenomena - economics, accounting - or other mature disciplines such as physics. The Study uses: a historical approach to show the tradition in which they are involved; an epistemological analysis, first, of the nature construction of typical administrative knowledge, the design; second, of the key aspects in academic thesis such as, problem-solution, contribution, hypothesis contrasting and other aspects implicated from these.Doctorate programs can be designed in many different ways to meet the new demands. However, the permanent element in the doctoral thesis is problem solving (of design) by improving the theory.
