Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the progress of a research project on management in the family business. This research is part of a project that studies the factors which influence the continuity of the family firm. Performance management is a key activity in human resources management systems which try to achieve competitive advantages through people. Also, family businesses are vital for countries. For this reason, it is necessary to understand the factors that affect their continuity. However, the field of management in family business performance has not been studied. This article shows the results of the exploratory stage which concluded with a hypotheses elaboration and a model based on the perspectives offered by the agency, and internal resources theories, general relationship and family business theories.
