Lagerinvestitionen und Produktion in Europa: Gibt es ein Muster?

Abstract

Der Beitrag untersucht den Zusammenhang von Lagerinvestitionen und Veränderungen der gesamtwirtschaftlichen Produktion für 29 europäische Staaten über den Zeitraum 2000 bis 2009. Ein besonderes Augenmerk wird dabei auf die Rezession der Jahre 2008/09 gelegt. Für die meisten Länder ergibt sich ein ziemlich einheitliches Bild. Lagerveränderungen korrelieren positiv mit Veränderungen der Produktion und folgen diesen mit einer Verzögerung von zwei bis drei Quartalen. Damit gibt es weder Evidenz für eine konjunkturtreibende noch für eine konjunkturdämpfende Wirkung der Lagerinvestitionen. Einige wenige Länder weichen vom typischen Muster ab. Zu ihnen zählt neben Griechenland, Österreich und Spanien auch die Schweiz. Die Abweichungen in den betreffenden Ländern dürften eher durch mangelnde Datenqualität oder eine nichtadäquate Modellierung als durch ein abweichendes Verhalten der Wirtschaftsakteure begründet sein.
