Abstract

The authors address the origins and evolution of consumer law in Cuba and the influence of European Union consumer law on development in Cuba. The transition from the Cuban Socialist State to the current Cuban economic model plays a key role in the consumer protection legislation of the country, where several legislative reforms are on their way. The result is a divided economy and divided legal system depending on who is the party to the consumer contract, a publicly owned or private company.
