Abstract

The well-known oligopoly price problem is considered. Under rather general assumptions concerning the (linear) price-response functions of the competitors various strategies are discussed, among them the classical Cournot-Nash solution, the Launhardt-Hotelling strategy, Stackelberg’s asymmetry solution and the simultaneous choice of dependence prices or of independence prices. Special attention is paid to the maximum line solution, partial cases of which are the monopoly points and the maximum of total profit. Some results from the paper Helmedag (1991) are made more precise and exact conditions for the validity of assertions made in the present paper are given.
