Abstract

Starting from some empirical and theoretical considerations we specify a system of simultaneous equations for planning and realization of innovations with dynamic spillovers. We estimate different versions of the model with a bivariate dynamic Random-Effects-Probit-Model. We control for a possible correlation of the explaining variables with the unobserved firm-specific effects. For that purpose we use panel data of the IFO-Konjunkturtest combined with data of the National Income Accounts. It turns out that dynamic spillovers and unobserved heterogeneity exercise a significant influence on the process of innovation. The absolute firm size affects the innovative performance decisively while industry concentration results unimportant.
