Professionalità statistica: riconoscere la qualità

Abstract

The organizational and technological changes in producing national statistics require heavy investments in statistical training and education of all the people involved. In manufacturing and tertiary sectors statistical skills are greatly requested. Notwithstanding the foregoing, the image of the statistician is still unrecognised and his capabilities are often disregarded and undervalued. The need for acknowledgment of such a competence is widespread not only in the field of official statistics but also in the industrial sector. Promoting a form of accreditation by a community of “peers” may therefore represent an important contribution to enhance the image of statisticians as professionals.
