Abstract

This is achieved through a cross sectional analysis, results suggest a negative relationship between inequality and growth, which is robust to different specifications of the model. The initial level of gdp of each state is identified as an important determinant of growth and human capital as the driving power. With regard to the channels of transmission proposed, the Model of Social Conflict and Fertility-Education are supported by the data, making them the main explanatory factors of this relationship. In this way, this paper promotes the emergence of future analyzes focusing on the development of Mexico; from the improvement of the distinction between the processes that are carried out in society and its way of measurement, to a possible guide of public policies that would allow less income inequality, less polarization and therefore, better economic progress.
