Abstract

The law enforcement agencies of the federal, state, and local governments are no strangers to the attributes of science. From the applications of the physical sciences in the police laboratories to the use of trained behavioral scientists, the scientific method plays a large part in law enforcement. However, with the possible exception of certain electronic data processing systems, the fields of operations research and systems engineering have been overlooked.
