Abstract

A recent reexamination of the combat data from the WWII battle for Iwo Jima has yielded some revisions of the data used in Engel's paper [ Opns. Res. 2, 163–171 (1954)]. However, the revised data also fit Lanchester differential and difference equations closely, as Theil's inequality coefficient shows.
