Abstract

How can operations research/management science (OR/MS) professionals take advantage of the Internet, a global network of computers? One avenue is communication forums—e-mail list servers and Usenet news groups—for networking with professionals from OR/MS and other areas. The second avenue is accessing and creating repositories that archive information, such as software, technical papers, and conference programs. Online lists cover both repositories and forums. Tools allow users to access these repositories and to share information with research collaborators around the world. The Internet can be useful, but users should not expect too much.
