Abstract

In my journey in understanding and appreciating West Churchman's writings, I have distilled three ideas from a small selection of Churchman's writings relevant to the practice of management science. By reconstructing these ideas and by putting them in the broad context of Churchman's contributions, I trace the impact of Churchman's philosophy on the study of organizations and their purposes.
