Author

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to reveal the typology and characteristics of rural areas in Romania and other member states of the EU as an allocation factor of financial support from the EU budget. Comparative analysis between rural and urban areas reveals large social and economic development gaps in Romania, in other Member States as well as intra-European differentiation. The New Rural Development Policy of the EU is a key factor for the development of rural regions and convergence to urban areas by 2020. This paper reveals the Romanian advantages and disadvantages in 2014-2020, following the application of the National Rural Development Plan under the Common Agricultural Policy Reform.
