Abstract

This paper explores some facets of the construction and deconstruction of the myths of Frenchness, a broad notion crystallized over many centuries, at two levels, the cult level, of elites, and the popular level, not negligible at all, as they are reflected in the work of some French writers representative for the twentieth century.
