The European Union'S Energy Sector In The Context Of Climate Change Mitigation

Abstract

The European Union's energy policy covers a wide range of topics that are related to accelerating and facilitating the transition from fossil fuels to clean technologies in an efficient manner. Until now, energy policy has been designed in order to achieve a secure, sustainable and affordable energy system at the European Union level. Also, according to the European Green Deal, the European Commission's main objective is to focus on achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. In this context, this article aims to provide an overview of the European Union's energy sector, presenting trends in primary energy production, imports and exports, gross energy production and final consumption and also initiatives to reduce polluting energies and to increase 'clean' ones.
