Abstract

This paper aims to highlight the role of the EU in international trade in services from the perspective of the most representative macroeconomic indicators, emphasizing the contribution of EU trade policies both in supporting the economic interests of the member states and in increasing the EU's role in international trade in services. The analysis addresses the measures taken to inventory and reduce the existing regulatory barriers regarding international trade in services in EU member states, highlighting the impact of their elimination on EU economies. The last part of the paper presents the contribution of the new EU trade strategy, launched in February 2021, in supporting the development of the EU services sector, mainly in the direction of digitalization, as well as in the EU's involvement in international trade in services regulations at the level of the World Trade Organization.
