The Effects Of The War In Ukraine – The Global Food Crisis Becomes More Real

Abstract

In the summer of 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, World Bank experts warned that a global food crisis would be possible. In 2022, it is believed that the combined 3C factors - COVID-19, conflicts and climate - can have a devastating effect on food security at European and global level, while in the current international outlook dominated by the outbreak of the military conflict in Ukraine a global food crisis is becoming more and more real.This article analyses the impact of the 3C risk factors during the invasion of the Russian Federation into Ukraine in early 2022. The article is structured on 4 chapters: a) Global food crisis and 3C risk factors;b) COVID-19, a risk factor for the EU-27 food security; c) The war in Ukraine and effects on the food security at European level; d) The global economic effects of the war in Ukraine - the global food crisis is becoming more and more real. The article ends with conclusions regarding the risks related to a possible global food crisis triggered by the current international and geopolitical context.
