Eu-27 And Romania Are Dealing With The Economic Recession And Global Food Crisis Caused By Pandemic

The global economic crisis induced by the SARS COV-2 pandemic, the extended drought of the 2019-2020 agricultural season and the panic among food consumers in the most affected areas have led to the estimation of an imminent global food crisis, which could have “apocalyptic aspects” in 2020. The question we want to answer through this research is whether the European Union as a whole, but also Romania are ready to face a global food crisis that it will manifest itself in food shortages and / or climbing international prices, in other words if and how food security will be ensured. Our article reveals the results of the quantitative and qualitative analysis, structured as follows: a) The impact of the pandemic on the world economy and global food security in 2020 and forecasts for 2021; b) EU-27 and Romania in the face of global food crises; c) Solutions and recommendations for mitigating the consequences of the pandemic on food security and examples of good practice to ensure food sovereignty. Finally, the conclusions of the research are summarized.
