Abstract

According to data published by the International Institute for Copper Studies (I.C.S.C.), world copper production increased in 2016 by 2.33%, and world consumption increased by 1.85%. According to the same analysts in the I.C.S.C., world production/consumption in the refined copper market indicates a 55,000 tons deficit in 2016 and will continue to be weak in 2017, mainly due to the apparent increase in China's apparent consumption (+ 2.5%). The annual average price of copper in 2016 was $ 4,862.85 / tons, 11.61% lower than in 2015. Copper stocks in 2016 were 234,061 tons, 22.58% lower compared to 2015.
