Abstract

The world coffee production was 9,897 thousand tons (+ 10.3% over the previous season) in 2015/16, and the consumption was 9.121 thousand tons (+ 4.5%), the production-consumption difference, With a surplus of 776 thousand tons of coffee, compared to only 241 thousand tons in the previous season. The annual average Arabic coffee quotas, FOB New York, was $ 2,988 / ton in 2016, with an increase of only 0.21% compared to 2015 when an average of $ 2,926 / tonne was recorded. The annual average price of Robusta Caf, the London Stock Exchange, was $ 1,719 / ton in 2016, compared to $ 1,679 / ton in 2015, an increase of 2.38%. With regard to the 2016/17 season, according to U.S.D.A. forecasts, world coffee production is projected to reach 9,180,000 tons, down 7.24% from the previous season. For the first quarter of 2017, coffee prices, both for Arabic coffee and Robusta coffee, will continue the downward trend, remaining above the annual average of 2016.
