Abstract

In 2016, German economy showed considerable resilience in the face of external pressures, achieving the highest growth among all advanced world economies. As such, the real GDP saw the most accelerated growth after 2011, being supported both by factors with a stimulating effect on all the components of domestic demand, and by the favourable development of export, notwithstanding the decreased global demand compared to previous years. As regards the outlook of the federal economy for 2017, a slowdown of the pace is envisaged against the background of the uncertainties generated by a tense economic and geopolitical environment – marked by the ongoing Brexit negotiations, the persistence of dissensions related to the resolution of the refugee crisis and, last but not least, by the national parliamentary elections set to take place this fall. However, all these influencing elements will fade by 2018, when it is estimated that the economic activity will accelerate.
