Impacto económico de la creación de universidades: evidencia vinculada con la expansión del sistema de educación en Argentina 1993-2018

Abstract

El presente trabajo emplea un modelo de econometría espacial autoregresivo para datos de panel, con el objetivo de determinar el impacto económico regional en el producto geográfico regional (PGR) que posee el nivel de po-blación y la creación de universidades de gestión pública en Argentina, para el periodo 1993 – 2018. Se encontró evidencia de una relación negativa y altamente significativa entre el nivel de población y el PGR per cápita, por otro lado, existe una dependencia positiva y significativa con el número de universidades.Gracias a esto se puede decir que la presencia de universidades se asocia positivamente con el crecimiento económico. Como conclusión este trabajo nos sugiere que las universidades tienen un rol muy importante en la sociedad, el cual va más allá de su efecto como productores de capital humano, es decir, que hay que tener en cuenta las externalidades que está institución genera debido a su amplio rango de impacto. / In this paper, an autoregressive spatial econometric model is used for panel data, with the aim of determining the regional economic impact on the regional geographic product (PGR) that the population level has and the creation of public management universities in Argentina, to the period 1993 – 2018. Evidence of a negative and highly significant relationship was found between the population level and the PGR per capita, on the other hand, there is a positive and significant dependence on the number of universities. Thanks to this, it can be said that the presence of universities is positively associated with economic growth.In conclusion, this work suggests that universities have a very important role in society, which goes beyond their effect as producers of human capital, that is, that we must take into account the externalities that this institution generates due to its wide impact range.
