Abstract

Developing countries have changed their attitudes towards developing SMEs and supporting entrepreneurship due to the importance of SMEs and entrepreneurship in these countries. Recent studies show that SMEs highly affects economic growth, employment, export, and poverty. Considering these circumstances, this paper tries to examine the profile of SMEs and their impact on the growth prospects of North Macedonia for the period 2012-2019. The study is carried out using secondary data analysed by employing SPSS. The results of the paper suggest that there is a negative correlation between SME indicators and GDP, but the empirical findings also suggest that there is a correlation between exports, and SMEs economic situation, exports and SMEs financial situation. On the other hand, there is a significant negative correlation between the poverty index and the economic situation of SMEs, meaning that the increase of the economic situation of SMEs results in the decrease of the poverty and vice versa.
