Abstract

Efficient healthcare waste management is both a necessity and a challenge for healthcare establishments, especially in developing nations. The importance of healthcare waste management has been acknowledged by The Government of India also, which is evident by the implementation of bio-medical waste handling rules (2011) by Ministry of Environment % Forests. As healthcare waste disposal is an activity being increasingly outsourced by healthcare establishments, selection of the most appropriate healthcare waste disposal firm gains utmost importance. Hence, the aim of the present study is to propose the model to select the waste disposal outsourcing partner for healthcare facilities. The present study proposed a hybrid quantitative model based on analytic network process (ANP) and technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS), under grey environment for selecting the appropriate healthcare waste disposal firm from several alternatives. Six main criteria and twenty sub-criteria (verified and validated by an expert panel) form the selection parameters. The proposed model has been applied to select the most appropriate healthcare waste disposal partner in Roorkee and Haridwar ' two towns in Uttarakhand, India.
