Abstract

This paper generalises a previous hybrid system with single and batch service. To derive different performance measures of the model, the embedded Markov chain and semi-regenerative techniques are used. The optimal management policy of the system is then obtained based on these measures. The decision variable is the control limit parameter which regulates the transitions from one hybrid mode to another. A numerical example illustrating the outperformance of the proposed hybrid model over the standard quorum model is presented. The proposed hybrid queuing model is useful in many real world situations such as telecommunications, computer networks, power systems, dams, electric circuits and transportation networks.
