Selected issues in knowledge management implementation: a sectorial analysis

Abstract

The objective of this paper is to investigate the similarities and dissimilarities in Knowledge Management (KM) practices among selected sectors of manufacturing organisations in India through formulation and testing of some hypotheses. A questionnaire-based survey was conducted on four sectors, namely auto, engineering, process and Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG). The findings of the sectorial analysis show that the selected sectors do not significantly differ in the various channels used for effective knowledge sharing and in the skills required by KM team. Further, it has been observed that the selected sectors significantly differ in the use of KM in different functional areas, in KM Barriers (KMBs) and in KM Critical Success Factors (CSFs).
