Intellectual productivity: measuring and improving productivity in the intangible economy

Abstract

The nature of production has changed. As a consequence, organisations have lost sight of the sources of productivity and productivity developments. Main objective of this article is to investigate this so called "productivity enigma" from the perspectives of "intellectual capital" and "knowledge productivity". Both concepts are closely related to the New Growth Theory, and come together in the concept of "intellectual capital multiplication". This concept reveals that the different classes of intangibles – structural capital and human capital – enhance each other and that structural capital is the main source of productivity in the intangible economy.
