Green innovation and environmental and financial performance: trends and challenges for future research

Abstract

The relationship between green innovation (GI) and company performance has received increasing attention from researchers in recent years. In this way, the present study aims to present a synthesis of the most relevant academic research that relate Green Innovation and the company's financial and environmental performance, knowing in a standardised way the scientific information on the theme. Through an integrative literature review, 66 academic papers published in the journals of Science Direct, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, between 2012 and 2019, were analysed. The results showed that most studies were carried out in industries in developing countries. In addition, the results also demonstrated a positive relationship both between GI and financial performance (55%) and between GI and environmental performance (48%) in most of the studies analysed. These findings can contribute to the researchers for the formation of a solid conceptual based on the subject, guiding for future research.
