Abstract

In this study, the results of empirical study carried out in manufacturing small and medium enterprises of Northern India, a synthesis of results and its inferences; two case studies of manufacturing enterprises in the same region; knowledge acquired from numerous stages of research; and a qualitative model to present the learning issues to develop a practical and effective management process for the successful implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies has been discussed. Utmost care has been taken to avoid repeatability and overlapping while developing the list of independent learning issues. Four techniques namely, analytical hierarchy process (AHP), fuzzy set theory (FST), options field methodology (OFM) and options profile methodology (OPM) have been used for qualitative modelling. After this, an implementation plan for improving various output parameters by the implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies has been generated while considering the approaches of optimism, pessimism and realism.
