Abstract

The aim of this paper is to measure the effect of external human resources on individual firm performance. Using the industrial district as an interorganisational context definition, we propose a model including a set of factors associated with the endowment of external human resources: collective information and knowledge, and the participation of local institutions. Findings of the paper suggest that firms should develop a distinct strategy in order to shape and exploit external human resources in an optimal way.
